The Security Gap Most Organizations Miss: Physical Access
April 30, 2026 – By Richard Andrade, Operations Manager
The Door Everyone Forgets
Cybersecurity gets plenty of attention. Physical security often gets whatever time is left on the agenda.
Badge access, doors, and building controls are frequently treated as separate from IT. Attackers do not see it that way.
When Physical Access Changes Everything
Lost badges, shared credentials, tailgating, and access that is never removed all create opportunities that sophisticated defenses cannot fix.
Once someone is physically inside a building, the rules change. An attacker may be able to plug unauthorized devices into the network, access infrastructure directly, or install malicious hardware without triggering traditional alerts.
None of this requires advanced skills. Just access.
Closing the Gap
Physical and digital security work best when they are aligned.
Regularly review who has physical access and why
Use stronger entry controls such as PINs or biometrics
Correlate access logs with monitoring systems
Train employees to recognize and prevent tailgating
If identity is the new security perimeter, physical access is part of that identity whether we acknowledge it or not. Physical and digital security do not have to live in separate worlds. If you would like to explore how they intersect in your organization, let' connect.
